(E-E) Evgenij Kozlov 8 vintage proof sheets from photo sessions with Vladislav Mamyshev-Monroe, 1989 / 1990

At Russkoee Polee (“The Russian Field”), (E-E) Evgenij Kozlov arranged numerous photo sessions with Vladislav Mamyshev posing as Marilyn Monroe – actually Mamyshev’s first photo sessions. They took place in front of Kozlov's paintings from the series “New Classicals”, in his bedroom and in the so-called “Lenin’s room”, decorated with Lenin memorabilia. Kozlov reworked the pictures in his photo collages, but also gave them to Mamyshev, who used them for his own works.

Those eight proof sheets presented here assemble film strips with 187 pictures, selected from a total of six different films with 208 pictures. Kozlov often chose strips from different films for a specific proof sheet. Accordingly, the pictures we see do not necessarily belong to one and the same photo shoot. For instance, in the proof sheet above, the two strips on the left are from one film, and the two from the right from another one. Besides, those two strips do not appear in chronological order.

There exist some more proof sheets with single photos of Vladislav Mamyshev-Monroe, but they are not part of this presentation.

Below is a reproduction of page 90 from the catalogue "Жизнь замечательного Монро" / "The life of remarkable Monroe", New Museum, St. Petersburg, 2014, edited by Olesya Turkina and Viktor Mazin. It shows Evgenij Kozlov's picture with Vladislav Mamyshev-Monroe (Inv. no. GK61) from proof sheet no. 3071 (top right).
Vladislav Mamyshev-Monroe stands in front of Kozlov's painting "Love for the Man" from the series "New Classicals" 1989 / 1990, hanging vertically instead of horizontally.

The picture is a vintage print by Evgenij Kozlov. In the catalogue it is referred to as "collection Timur Novikov" without mentioning the author's name.
